I work with a variety of mediums, principally within the realm of painting, drawing and textiles, in order to create dream-like imagery inspired by self-explorations of the notion of embodiment. Informed by my Puerto Rican background and chosen identities, my artworks exist as a form of hybridised autofiction, where figures that stand outside of conventional social frameworks “play out” sublimated yet purposefully opaque scenes based on my personal lived experiences. These hybrid figures embody many aspects of my sensual reality as a Boricua woman, a person with a chronic illness and as someone on the asexual spectrum. Within my compositions hybridity principally serves to challenge the centralization of gender, sex and desirability as modes for defining what it means to be human.
